Overview

On your arrival at Windhoek Airport you will be met by a representative and transferred to your hotel. Next day depart Windhoek and head north via Okahandja for a visit to a local market, to shop for wood carvings and curios. On day three, you will spend a full day in this world-class game park, visiting a number of waterholes to observe the wildlife. Spend another day in Etosha's unique desert landscape and then rise early this morning for a day which is sure to prove most memorable. With their intricate hairstyles and traditional adornments, the Himba are one of Namibia's most distinctive tribes. Spend time with these proud people, learning about their captivating heritage and special way of life. From the small settlement near Kamanjab head via Khorixas, the capital of the Damaraland region to arrive at your lodge in the mid-afternoon. On day 6, rise early this morning to see the highlights of Damaraland, one of the last true wilderness areas in Africa. We pass through scenic landscapes en route to the Petrified Forest. Visit the rock engravings at Twyfelfontein, the fascinating geological features such as the Organ Pipes and Burnt Mountain.

Next day continue via Henties Bay to the charming coastal resort of Swakopmund. Today is at leisure to continue your exploration of this charming town. Indulge in a harbour cruise or do a scenic flight, or perhaps one of the numerous optional adventure activities on offer. This morning, visit some of the regions natural wonders such as the ancient Welwitschia Mirabilis and the Moon Landscape before continuing to the edges of the Namib Desert. From there proceed through the southern region of the Namib Naukluft Park, the Kuiseb Canyon, and the Gaub Pass before we reach your accommodation. On day 10, visit the spectacular dunes at Sossusvlei, reputedly the highest dunes in the world. This morning, have a leisurely start and drive through the scenic Spreetshoogte Pass (road conditions permitting) on to Windhoek. You arrive at your Windhoek city hotel at approximately 2pm. Alternatively you may choose to be dropped off at the Windhoek International Airport by 2:30pm.

Itinerary

Day 1: Windhoek

On arrival at Windhoek Airport you will be met by a tour representative and transferred to your hotel with the remainder of your afternoon at leisure.

Day 2: Etosha National Park (B, D)

Depart Windhoek and head north via Okahandja for a visit to a local market, to shop for wood carvings and curios. Arrive at your lodge late this afternoon.

Day 3: Etosha National Park (B, D)

Today you will spend a full day in this world-class game park in our touring vehicle, visiting a number of waterholes to observe the wildlife. Etosha translated, means ‘The place of dry water’ and here we get our first view of the magnificent pan. An open sided 4x4 Safari Drive is available as an optional extra (own account).

Memorable Moment: The Etosha Pan is a vast, bare, open expanse of shimmering green and white that covers around 4 800km², almost a quarter of the beautiful Etosha National Park.  At 130 km’s long and up to 50km’s wide in places, it is comfortably the largest salt pan in Africa and is the park’s most distinctive and dramatic feature, visible even from space.

Day 4: Etosha National Park (B, D)

Board your touring vehicle and spend another day in Etosha’s unique desert landscape searching for amongst other animals, it’s large population of elephants and marvelling at its prolific bird life. Your accommodation will be located just outside the reserve.

Day 5: Damaraland (B, D)

Memorable Moment: Today you will meet and spend time with the Himba people. The red ochre cream that the Himba are famous for is made by pounding the ochre stone (Hematite) into small pieces. Thereafter the fragments are mixed with butter, slightly heated by means of smoke and applied on the skin.

Day 6: Damaraland (B, D)

Rise early this morning to see the highlights of Damaraland, one of the last true wilderness areas in Africa. Pass through scenic landscapes en route to the Petrified Forest. Day 7: Swakopmund (B)

Continue via Henties Bay to the charming coastal resort of Swakopmund. Spend the remainder of the afternoon at leisure to explore the town.

Day 10: Sossusvlei (B, D)

Visit the spectacular dunes at Sossusvlei, reputedly the highest dunes in the world. Energetic guests may choose to climb to the top of the dunes, before returning to our lodge.

Memorable Moment: The spectacular dunes at Sossusvlei are the highest dunes in the world. The tallest sand dune in Sossusvlei is ‘Big Daddy’ (1066ft/325m).

Day 11: Sossusvlei – Windhoek  (B)

This morning have a leisurely start and drive through the scenic Spreetshoogte Pass (road conditions permitting) on to Windhoek. You arrive at your Windhoek city hotel at approximately 2pm.
