Your day begins with a 9am pickup from your Port of Spain hotel. Greet your local guide, board the vehicle and travel through the flat plains of central Trinidad to the third largest city, Chaguanas.
Enjoy all that the busy bazaar streets and fresh produce markets of Chaguanas have to offer. With local fruits, provisions, meats and snacks, vendors put them all on display for purchase. Look out for the hot peppers! Also try some local East Indian snacks, like Khurma.
Afterward, visit a small pottery house where you can see different types of ornaments like plant pots, vases, and wind chimes being made by hand right in front of you. See the entire process from shaping, then drying, then baking the products. Give it a try and get your own hands dirty by creating something special to take home.
Next, visit the Hindu temples. Most of Trinidad’s East Indian population is located in Central Trinidad and so you see a number of Hindu temples, and prayer flags in the yards of seemingly every house. See the largest (85-foot/26-meter) statue of the Hindu monkey-god, Lord Hanuman, outside of India. A tour of the site including the attached yoga center allows you to learn about interesting rituals and concepts — for example, the tying of a dried coconut to the temple compound fence for sixteen days is said to fulfill your wishes. The gigantic temple is bright-pink and to some resembles a big wedding cake.
To conclude the tour, take a short drive across to the Temple in the Sea and Cremation Site and the East Indian Museum. Also enjoy a tasty, authentic roti lunch (not included in tour price) before being dropped off back at your Port of Spain hotel at around 2pm.
Hotel pickups commence prior to this time, you must contact the local service provider to verify your exact pickup time.
