Overview

You will meet your group and guide at Our Adventure Cafe and set off on a short drive into the archipelago. After a short introduction session with the kayaks you will set off on a beautiful journey of discovery.
Having yourself a few days out in the archipelago will give you plenty of opportunity to perfect your paddling technique, however, it’s not all about paddling.  Your local guide has a wealth of knowledge on the surrounding flora and fauna, and the history of Stockholm, so there will be plenty to learn and discuss as you go.  You will also be able to take a swim, do some fishing (maybe even catch something for dinner!) and enjoy a quieter pace of life with your fellow kayakers.
The tours do not follow a fixed route, your guide will be flexible and pick the best route taking into consideration the weather, and the needs, desires and abilities of the group.  You will often paddle to the outer “Skerries”, a true wilderness, and camp on uninhabited and remote islands, which are frequented by only a few people. If you have always dreamed of sleeping under the stars, this is your time!
Delicious typical Swedish meals are freshly prepared, and cooked on outdoor stoves for you whilst on your kayaking trip.
You do not need any previous kayaking experience or much ‘muscle-power’ to enjoy a kayaking tour, although some experience of outdoor life may come in handy.  Safety is our number 1 priority, so your guide will make sure that everyone is at ease and knows how to deal with the wind and the waves before crossing open stretches.
On the last day, you will arrive back to the city in the late afternoon.

Itinerary

Day 1: Stavsnäs Vinterhamn – Runmarö - first paddle (D)Around midday, take the bus from Stockholm to the port of Stavsnäs Vinterhamn. Meet your guide and depart by taxi boat to the island of Runmarö, your main base for your tour. After a safety briefing, try out your equipment and kayak. Even beginners find this easy, especially with your guide to help you master things.
When you’re ready, take your first paddle around Runmarö. One of the archipelago’s best kayaking areas, its shallow waters are home to oystercatchers, terns, turnstones and seals. Glide silently between the shores and breathe in the tranquility and beauty — you’ll instantly see why this collection of islands is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Afterward, perhaps try your luck fishing and savor a typical Swedish dinner cooked outdoors. At night, choose to sleep under the stars or share a spacious, 2-person domed tent. Either way, a comfortable air mattress and sleeping bag is provided, although you can bring your own sleeping kit if you wish.
Overnight: Campsite on Runmarö
Day 2: On the water (B, L, D)After a good night’s sleep, enjoy an early morning swim before breakfast. Then, weather permitting, pack up your equipment, and head off in your kayak. The islands are perfect for kayaking, with no tides or strong currents and plenty of sheltered, lee shores. Before you leave, chat with your guide about your preferences for the day's itinerary as they set out a route depending on the conditions.

Paddle towards the open sea to Bullerö, a stunning island and nature reserve, with rich birdlife. With its rocks, meadows and heathland brim with wild cloudberries, this idyllic spot has a single, tiny village. Drift around its shores, watch for seabirds, and hear about the archipelago’s nature and history from your guide.
Bullerö was home to the Swedish artist Bruno Liljefors, who painted here in the early 1900s. Head for the museum in his former studio to learn more about the local flora, fauna and history, and then explore Bullerö’s picturesque village.
Return to your kayak and paddle to your next campsite. Before dinner, perhaps enjoy a walk or swim, or just sit on one of the smooth, sun-warmed rocks and soak up the wonderful peace and quiet.
Overnight: Campsite on Bullerö or other island
Day 3: On the water – Runmarö - Stavsnäs Vinterhamn (B, L)Rise early and maybe take a dawn paddle to enjoy the morning light and perhaps spot white-tailed sea eagles wheeling in the air. After breakfast, cruise around new inlets, islets and rocks. If conditions allow, paddle to the outer skerries to experience the true wilderness of the archipelago — you’ll feel like you’re light years from the modern world.
Later, paddle back to Runmarö to pack and tidy up before your transfer back to Stavsnäs Vinterhamn, where your tour ends in the late afternoon. Say a fond farewell to your guide and return to Stockholm by bus.
