Designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, this perfectly intact 16th century gem with nine towers, cobbled streets, burgher houses and ornate churches rivals the historic streets of Old Prague or Vienna for atmospheric magic. It is also the birthplace of Vlad Dracula, also known as Vlad Tepes (Vlad the Impaler), ruler of the province of Walachia from 1456 to 1462. It was him who inspired Bram Stoker's fictional creation, Count Dracula. Founded by Transylvanian Saxons during the 12th century, Sighişoara is a fine example of a small, fortified medieval town that played an important strategic and commercial role on the fringes of central Europe for several centuries. On this tour, you will visit or stop at The House with the Deer Antler, The Venician House, Church of the Convent, the Clock Tower, the Catholic Church, Tailors’ Tower, Furriers’ Tower, Butchers’ Tower, Butchers’ Bastion, the Covered Staircase, the School Hill, the Church on the Hill (including an inside visit), the German Cemetery, Tin Moulders’ Tower, Vlad the Impaler’s birth house and Citadel’s Market place.
