San Francisco is a city of incredible beauty and surprising contradictions. 100-year old cable cars climb daunting hills between massive hotels, iconic churches, and 19th century mansions while the streets ring out with the sounds of petty hustlers, gawking tourist and young tech professionals. There is incredible history packed into 170 years of gold seekers, hopeful immigrants, bohemian artist, law breaking rebels, new-age hippies, strange outcast, literary superstars and revolutionaries. Your walking tour of Union Square and Chinatown starts at the Clift Hotel, at the intersection of Geary and Taylor Streets, where you will meet your guide and the rest of your tour group. Right on the boundary between two distinct neighborhoods, you will quickly feel the energy of the city streets as your guide orients you to the sights and sounds that make this area unique. For the next two hours you will explore the heart of the city and discover works of art by famous artist like Salvador Dali and Philippe Starck, photograph buildings designed by well-known architects, and learn about the distinct iconography that sets Chinatown apart from the rest of the city. Along the way, you will learn the history of what makes San Francisco the city it is today and how these two important neighborhoods came to be. When you are finished, you will have the option of eating lunch at a famous downtown steakhouse or trying dim sum at one of Chinatown's best known restaurants.
