Itinerary

Day 1: Puerto Maldonado – Inkaterra Reserva Amazónica (L, D)Upon arrival at Padre Aldamiz International Airport in Puerto Maldonado, you’ll be greeted and transferred to the Inkaterra Lounge (Butterfly House) near the airport. After check-in here, head to the boarding wharf just 15 minutes away. Experience the enchantment of the rainforest during a 45-minute motorized canoe ride along the Madre de Dios River until you arrive at Inkaterra Reserva Amazónica Lodge. After a brief orientation, settle into your beautiful cabaña and enjoy your lunch in the dining room.
After gathering with your guide and group, choose from the 13 different excursions available at the lodge. If you’d like, take a short guided walk along a trail system that explores the Inkaterra Reserva Amazónica natural area, where you will discover the Amazon Basin. This trail offers an excellent introduction to the forest environment, winding past impressive trees such as the staggeringly tall kapok and the beautiful strangler fig, and offers great opportunities for bird watching and observing insects.
Another great option is a twilight river excursion by motorized canoe on the Madre de Dios River. Witness the jungle transform from a diurnal to a nocturnal world as animals and birds of the daytime give way to species specially adapted to the night. Learn about animal habits while you search for nightjars, owls, capybaras and up to three different caiman species.
Enjoy dinner served in the dining room from 7:30 to 9pm. Afterward, retire to sleep or socialize with other guests as you listen to the intriguing sounds of the jungle at night.
Overnight: Inkaterra Reserva Amazónica Lodge in the Peruvian Amazon Basin
Day 2: Lake Sandoval and Inkaterra Canopy Walkway (B, L, D)Wake up to a symphony of tropical birdsong. After a buffet breakfast at the lodge, visit Lake Sandoval on a guided morning excursion into the Tambopata National Reserve. Here, the dense rainforest and bird-filled marshes are mainly accessed by waterway. Glide in a dugout canoe across a beautiful, mirror-like oxbow lake—a black-water lake formed by the meanderings of rivers—home to the endangered giant river otter. Listen and look for red howler monkeys, red-bellied macaws, anacondas, side-neck turtles and black caimans during your exploration.
After returning to the lodge for lunch, head out on a moderate 1.5-hour journey over the remarkable Inkaterra Canopy Walkway, a network of towers and suspension bridges linking eight observation platforms. Ascending the first tower, 98 feet (30 meters) above the forest floor, begin your encounter with the treetop realm. During your walk through the rainforest canopy, be on the lookout for colorful toucans, woodpeckers, trogons, monkeys and sloths.
If you’d like, stay and appreciate the sunset from one of the towers. After your descent, experience the 30-minute Anaconda Walk along a 656-foot (200-meter) wooden bridge over the wetlands. In this lush ecosystem, you may observe various species of amphibians, birds, mammals and snakes amid the abundant flora of this flooded marshland.
Return to the lodge and enjoy the daily nature presentation in the eco-center before dinner begins at 7:30pm.

Day 3: Inkaterra Reserva Amazónica – Puerto Maldonado (B)Enjoy a full breakfast at the lodge before departure from your accommodation. A 45-minute return trip by motorized canoe on the Madre de Dios River takes you to Puerto Maldonado, where you may visit the Butterfly House. Peru boasts the greatest variety of butterflies in the world, with 3,700 known species. Many of these can be seen at the Butterfly House—a showcase for the variety, beauty and adaptability of these fascinating insects.
From here, you’ll be transferred to the international airport in time for your departing flight.
