There are two options to make the tour to visit the Chacahua Lagoons National Park, a morning tour or an evening tour. The morning tour departs Puerto Escondido at 8am heading in the North direction. On the way the Driver-Guide in Spanish or English will share all the information and history of rural communities and you will discover the history of the loving trees.
Then you will arrive at Rio Grande cattle raising village where you will have the opportunity to taste some delicious tacos of beef or goat barbecue (breakfast not included). Then, you will reach the village of Zapotalito where you leave the vehicle and board a boat to sail in 5 lagoons that make up the National Park Lagunas de Chacahua; declared National Park Lagunas de Chacahua On June 30, 1937 by Mexican President Lazaro Cardenas del Rio.
In the lagoons you will visit the first place where the ocean joins with the lagoon named Cerro Hermoso. Then, continue knowing the different islands of the lagoons, floating islands eh islands with the mainland in the middle with different names. You'll also go into a maze of mangroves and see the bird sanctuary and the island called Corral to then reach the village of Chacahua. Here, you will walk through the village to discuss the Afromestizo culture and visit a crocodile farm. Then, you'll have the opportunity to swim in a natural giant swimming pool and eat a delicious dish of shrimp or fish (additional cost). You will be here about two hours and then you will go back to your hotel in Puerto Escondido at around 5pm.
The afternoon option leaves your hotel at 3pm and includes all the activities mentioned but you'll also visit the unequaled viewpoint of Chacahua lighthouse to take pictures of a beautiful sunset and have the chance to have a natural campfire on the beach and swim in the the bio luminescent lights of the lagoon known as Plankton. You'll return to your hotel at around 10:30pm at night.
