This 8-day tour will take you from Mexico City through magical places in central Mexico, with the opportunity to visit archaeological sites from Puebla and Cholula to Santa Maria del Tule and Mitla. And to experience Mexico's vibrant culture, explore the cities of Oaxaca and Mexico City, where this tour begins and ends.
Day 1: Puebla After pickup at the airport in Mexico City, travel to the city of Puebla, known as the City of Angels, where you’ll admire the magnificent architecture in the UNESCO-listed historic center. See the Main Street, the Cathedral, the City Hall, and more, with time to visit Amparo Museum and the Biblioteca Palafoxiana Library.
You'll also learn some of Puebla's culinary secrets with a workshop and cooking demonstration, tasting dishes like mole poblano and chiles en nogada, stuffed poblano chili peppers with walnut sauce. Lunch included.
Day 2: Cholula After breakfast stop at the Talavera pottery workshop, then visit the picture-perfect town of Cholula, including an archaeological site that features seven overlapping pyramids.
Day 3: Tehuacan - Monte Alban Depart to Oaxaca City, visiting Tehuacan en route—the name means "place of the gods," and the city is known for natural mineral springs with curative properties. Following your time at Tehuacan, head to Monte Alban, the ancient capital of the Zapotecs.
Day 4: Santa Maria del Tule - Mitla Start the day at Santa Maria del Tule, where you will stop at the temple of Santa Maria of the Assumption, whose atrium holds the legendary Tule Tree, estimated to be 2,000 years old. Continue to Mitla, once the main religious center of the Zapotec culture, and a fascinating place to explore their culture and history.
Day 5: Oaxaca City Tour – Mexico City Take a walking tour through Oaxaca, where you'll find Spanish colonial architecture, the Santo Domingo Cultural Center, the Museum of the Juarez House, and more. Taste Mexican snacks at Lost Portales, with fresh drinks or a shot of mezcal. Spend your final evening in Oaxaca enjoying a delicious dinner.
Day 6: Mexico City Arriving back to Mexico City you'll check in to the hotel and enjoy a relaxing free day, then catch a traditional show at Plaza Garibaldi.
Day 7: Guadalupe Shrine and Teotihuacan After breakfast head to Guadalupe Shrine and Teotihuacan to learn about the Guadalupe Virgin. Have a leisurely lunch of traditional Mexican food, then spend an independent afternoon and evening.
