Overview
Your 2-day private tour introduces you to the amazing food and wine in Victoria, a region west of Melbourne that boasts a wealth of outstanding restaurants that source fresh ingredients from top-notch local farms and venerable wineries. You won't just dine in luxury: This two-day trip includes an overnight stay at the historic Royal Mail Hotel Dunkeld, where your room overlooks Grampians National Park.
Itinerary
Day 1: Melbourne – Dunkeld (L, D) In the morning, your guide picks you up at your hotel in a private vehicle. Travel in comfort for about an hour to the town of Ballarat where you can have two choices of refreshments: a classic morning tea served in the opulent, gold rush–era Craig’s Royal Hotel, or wine tastings at Mitchell Harris Wine Bar, a hip newcomer that serves their own blends along with a selection from other Central and Western Victoria wineries.
After your morning stop, travel another hour to Best’s Great Western, one of the oldest family-owned wineries in Australia that is now run by the fifth generation of the family. Your guide takes you behind the scenes and into the historic cellar for a special tasting of their museum wines followed by a delicious picnic lunch.
Continue to Dunkeld where you stay overnight at the acclaimed Royal Mail Hotel Dunkeld. If you've seen enough for the day, head up to your room for some rest. Alternatively, your guide can take you into nearby Grampians National Park to view the spectacular scenery.
In the evening, head to your reserved table in Royal Mail’s acclaimed restaurant for the exquisite 8-course chef’s selection tasting menu. Many of the ingredients come from their organic gardens, orchards and olive groves. Each course is paired with a wine from their award-winning collection, which has been privately curated for 40 years.
After a memorable meal, retire to your deluxe room, where you can enjoy views of Grampians National Park and the hotel gardens from large windows and private balcony. Each room features a king bed, a spacious bathroom with heated floors, a desk, lounge chairs, TV, and Wi-Fi, among other amenities.
Overnight: deluxe room at the Royal Mail Hotel Dunkeld
Day 2: Dunkeld – Melbourne (B, L) Start your morning with a delicious breakfast in the dining room. Soon after, take a guided tour of the hotel’s extensive kitchen garden and 'raid the cellar,' which gives you the option to purchase wine from Australia’s best wine collection at special rates provided only to hotel guests.
Midmorning, travel along a scenic route to arrive at Mount Langi Ghiran Winery for a tasting of their wines, including their renowned shiraz, as you take in the sweeping views of the Great Dividing Range.
Continue to the legendary Lake House in Daylesford for a sumptuous 3-course lunch at a restaurant and hotel that has put the region on the map as a food destination par excellence. Wine is not included in your lunch, however a wine menu is available if you want to purchase a glass or bottle for your meal.
After lunch, you'll have time to walk along the shores of Lake Daylesford and look at the hotel’s art gallery before returning to Melbourne in the early evening.
