Overview
During your private tour of the Mornington Peninsula’s vibrant wine and food scene, your local guide brings you to the communities of Red Hill, Main Ridge, Merricks, Moorooduc and Dromana to meet the wine producers and artisan food experts who have made the region a world-class foodie destination. Over two days visit a range of wineries, from smaller family-owned establishments to large producers in grand landmark buildings. Upwards of 50 wineries specialize in cool-climate wines, think chardonnay and pinot noir, throughout the peninsula. At one of your stops in a renowned Red Hill winery, you’ll meet the winemaker for a private barrel tasting and learn about the winemaking process as you savor some of the region’s best pours. For lunch each day, indulge in a 2-course meal paired with wine at a top-notch winery restaurant. The chefs select the best local seasonal produce to create their delicious dishes. Stay overnight at the historic Flinders Hotel, recently renovated, to enjoy amenities that include king-size beds, cable TV, and complimentary WiFi. Your luxury tour includes two gourmet lunches, several wine tastings, a chocolate and cheese tasting, deluxe accommodations and transportation, and a knowledgeable private guide.
Itinerary
Day 1: Melbourne – Mornington Peninsula (L) A Mercedes Benz picks you up at your Melbourne hotel for a comfortable one-hour drive to the Mornington Peninsula to begin your private tour.
Visit a working farm in the scenic countryside where your hosts show you the olive groves. Learn about the art of brining and marinating olives as you sip house-roasted coffee at a shaded table in the grove. Sheep, chickens, and ducks wander around the farm as you gain insight into rural life on the peninsula.
Leave the farm for a winery to sample your first taste of regional wines. After the tasting, enjoy a multicourse lunch at Max's at Red Hill Estate. Your meal includes small dishes made with local and seasonal produce, accompanied by fine wines.
In the afternoon, visit Main Ridge Dairy to learn how they make their high-quality cheeses. After nibbling on cheese samples, meet award-winning gourmet chocolatiers and sample their amazing handmade sweets.
After a day of tastings, your guide returns you to your hotel for an evening at your leisure. Enjoy the hotel's modern dining options, which include a casual bistro and an upscale restaurant. You're also just a short walk from the historic town of Flinders; within minutes, you're on the main street to browse the shops or arrive at the beach. If you like to golf, Flinders boasts an excellent golf course on top of a cliff.
