Once our bilingual driver has met you at the hotel or the location you have suggested for pick up, the tour heads downtown on a customized journey by an air conditioned car. First stop takes place at Malaga Bar, one of the oldest tango bars which will allow you to understand how Tango pioneers first settled in our city.
Tour heads next to the magnificent San Pedro Cemetery Museum, which not only held Gardel´s body after his fatal accident in 1935, but also holds marvelous mausoleums that where once created as an initiative by 50 of the wealthiest families in the city. There is enough free time to walk around and take the best postcard pictures of the amazing architecture and fields where fathers of our nation rest eternally. Get ready to discover this fantastic tango tradition through the rest of Medellín.
As you visualize traditional neighborhoods in the city, the tour gets closer to Gardel´s favorite hangout just a few minutes north. A warm barrio where Gardel´s statue was placed as a tribute and nowadays home of the Gardelian house which displays some of his most significant contributions. Feel free to walk around and take photos or ask questions to your private guide. In fact, there are souvenirs that you can purchase at additional cost.
Finally, tour heads back south towards local airport where in June 1,935 unfortunately the Tango king passed away after his plane crashed and burned in flames. Your professional guide will make sure and narrate the details of this fatal incident that has gained Medellín a well-known reputation for being the “second home of Tango”.
Feel free to walk around and take photos inside and outside the airport, at the various monuments created in his tribute. Was Gardel French, Argentinan, Uruguayan? Perhaps a little bit of all, and maybe a little Colombian too…Feel free to ask your guide for exclusive anecdotes and special facts not available on books or even internet yet. Right next to the airport there it is the Patio of Tango, great place to end the journey and there is a good chance there is life performance.
After approximately 4-hour of a fantastic journey around the fascinating history of Tango in Medellín, you should be more familiar with this musical city and main Tango icons as your private driver/guide drives you back to your hotel or any other location you feel like.
