Your tour starts with pickup at your Lisbon hotel. With your guide, head off to spend the morning checking out such major sights as UNESCO World Heritage–listed Belém Tower, Padrão dos Descobrimentos (Monument to the Discoveries), and Jerónimos Monastery, built after Vasco da Gama's discovery of India in the late 15th century.
Make a stop at the most famous pastry shop in Portugal, founded in 1837, and then head toward central Lisbon, admiring the major squares of Rossio Square and Praça do Comércio. You'll also hear about the history behind the Portuguese Inquisition of the 16th century.
After lunch (at your own expense), the afternoon portion of your tour starts from Restauradores Square (Praça dos Restauradores) and continues to downtown Lisbon. Admire the narrow streets of Alfama, visit Lisbon Cathedral (Sé de Lisboa), take in views of the city toward the castle (Castelo de S. Jorge), and pass by Chiado and some photo-worthy viewpoints.
The tour ends with a visit to Parque das Nações, the newer, more modern part of the city, near the Tejo River, where the Expo '98 (the 1998 World Exposition) was held. The area was built to commemorate the 500 years since Da Gama's arrival in India.
