Visit: Edo Wonderland Nikko Edomura, Nikko, Tochigi Prefecture, Kanto
At Edo Wonderland Nikko Edomura, the culture and life of the Edo period is reproduced.
Here, you can go into the village through the gate which represents a checkpoint where visitors feel as though they traveled in time and arrived in the Edo period with a downtown, rows and rows of houses, a samurai area and a ninja village.
In the "Edomura," there are many places of interest such as a watch tower to watch for fires (as many fires occurred in the Edo period). There are also six theaters where visitors can enjoy plays featuring ninjas, oiran (courtesans), etc. There is also a show that feature's Edo Wonderland Nikko Edomura's mascot character, Nyan-mage!
There are also several interactive activities that you can take a part in at Edo Wonderland Nikko Edomura.
For example, there are Edo Work Experiences where one can train to become a samurai warrior, ninja or police officer, an indigo dyeing experience, a ninja star throwing experience and a kimono or costume experience where visitors can become an Edo-jin (citizen of Edo) wearing a costume of ninja, samurai, princess, geisha, oiran or others.
The restaurants in the village are in the Edo fashion. Visitors can enjoy more than just the food, but also enjoy the atmosphere of these places such as the Tori-soba-ya where waitresses and waiters in kimonos serve noodles or a beef bowl shop where visitors can have a bowl of rice topped with beef simmered in a special sauce.
