We will pick you up from your hotel in Jaipur before whisking you out of the city, past rolling countryside, grazing pastures and fragrant fields of wheat, mustard, coriander and chillies. Your journey back in time starts here.
Our first stop will be Abhaneri, a pretty village known for its mind-bogglingly stunning baoris or stepwells which run deep into the ground, providing a much-needed place to keep cool under the sweltering Indian sun.
The Harshat Mata temple also lives here; Harshat Mata is the Goddess of Joy and it said that she regularly bestows joy and happiness on everyone in the village, which is why everybody is always so pleased to see you!
After paying our respects to the Goddess of Joy, we will move on to explore the architectural beauty and intricate carvings of the Chand Baori stepwell, one of the biggest and most impressive in India. A perfect photo opportunity if ever there was one.
We will then make a stop at a local school to say hello to the children and find out what life is like for them living in rural Rajasthan.
Next up is the adorable village of Kalakho, surrounded by forests, deep in the Aravalli Hills. We’ll spend some time with farmers, herders, and silversmiths while they ply their trade amongst old, leafy peepal trees. A fascinating experience, offering you the unique opportunity to chat to locals about local tribal life and native customs in rural Rajasthan.
We will then settle under a tree for a cup of Masala tea as we watch women performing mehendi rachai or henna tattooing. You’ll learn the meanings behind the intricate designs and discover the rural significance of henna — and if you like, maybe get one yourself.
Later we will drive over to the Umaid Lake Palace, an organic retreat where we will see traditional farming practices in action and discover the different types of crops that are grown in the region.
And on another food note, we will finish our tour with a traditional Rajasthani lunch but be warned, the aromatic spices and herbs might just spoil your taste buds forever!
After an action-packed day exploring the countryside and immersing ourselves in local life, we will head back to your hotel in Jaipur. Don’t forget to ask your local guide for tips on how to get the most out of your trip to Rajasthan.
This tour is priced for a minimum group size of two travellers. A solo traveller may still book this private experience but will be charged the base rate for two travellers.
