Aphrodisias is on the way to Pamukkale, only 80 km away, so sometimes we add it to Pamukkale tour program. In that way, in one day you can enjoy two historical sites and the surrounding natural beauty.
The most interesting points of Aphrodisias are the City of Aphrodite, the Big stadium, Odeon, monumental gateway and the Temple of Aphrodite. It's the ruins at Ephesus that generally get most of attentionwhen it comes to the ancient sites of Turkey. But, in many ways, Aphrodisias is far superior. The site streches out over a large area, it's been extremely well preserved or restored, and it is easy to loose yourself in the moment because it does'nt have the large tourist crowds it probably deserves. Imagining life in the Aphrodisias of old is not difficult.
In Pamukkale you would see well preserved parts of ancient Hierapolis, the theatre and Necropolis, one of the biggest ancient graveyards. Pamukkale as a miracle of nature is famous for it's white thermal pools. Truly spectacular in it's own right, the geological phenomenon that is Pamukkale, literally ''Cotton Castle'' in Turkish. With such a unique combination of natural and man-made wonders it's little wonder that Pamukkale-Hierapolis has been made a Unesco World Heritage site.
After spending all day in Aphrodisia and Pamukkale, we are going to return back to Kusadası or Izmir.
