Day 1: Transfer Iquitos - Jungle Lodge & Activities in the Amazon Jungle (L/D)
Please arrive to Iquitos before 9am. Transfer from the airport arrivals lounge to Iquitos (or hotel to the office) for shopping and last-minute coordination. Transfer to the port for a fast 3-hour boat ride upriver from Iquitos on the Amazon River. Upon arrival, get settled in to your lodge and enjoy a delicious buffet lunch.
Take an afternoon boat trip to Lake Sapote to see birds including parrots, jacanas, kingfishers, herons, panguanas, partridges, pigeons, cormorants, horned screamers, and orneros, and then move to the other end of the Moena lagoon to see sloths and monkeys, squirrels and dusky titi monkeys, etc. After watching a sunset over the Forest of Mirrors, head back to the lodge for a dinner buffet. In the evening, take a boat ride to see caimans, nocturnal birds, and mammals.
Day 2: Activities in the Amazon Jungle (B/L/D)
Have an early breakfast before your Leoncito Hike, where you'll appreciate the immense variety of flora around the lodge. On this walk, you can taste the water that Uncaria tomentosa (cat's claw) has within its vines, reputed to have healing properties. You'll also be amazed at how huge the ceiba trees are.
Plus, you'll see the world's smallest monkey, the pigmy marmoset, and the squirrel and tamarin monkeys. If you're lucky, you'll see the howler monkey, whose deafening roar can be heard many miles away. Enjoy a lunch buffet at the lodge.
Take a boat trip to the lakes Purura and Corrientes and catch different kind of fish, including the famous piranha. This is an area that has many strangler vines, being the favorite spot of the bird "hoatzin" or shansho. This colorful bird looks like a prehistoric bird because it has three claws on the middle joint of the wing. Return to the lodge for a dinner buffet.
At night, take a night walk in search of huge frogs, anaconda´s favorite food. In addition to seeing tarantulas, it is worth clarifying that despite the bad reputation, they are not dangerous to humans.
Day 3: Activities in the Amazon Jungle & Return to Iquitos (B/L)
Enjoy breakfast on the boat while cruising on the Amazon River, where you will experience the most magical moment of your trip, which is to swim in the same river where the pink and gray dolphins live. You can see them, but don't expect to touch. On the way back to the lodge, you will see the biggest aquatic plant in the world, the famous Victoria Regia. It is also easy to see iguanas.
Enjoy a lunch buffet and then, with your guide, you will be able to count all the animals seen on your Animal Check List. Your experience of the jungle comes to an end and you will sail three hours back to Iquitos and be dropped off at the hotel or airport. Please plan to fly out of Iquitos after 6pm.
