Overview
We will look at their interiors to discern the reason for the locations chosen for each building, the political and ideological reasons behind the symbols they contain and the change in attitudes that was taking place in a city which had been, until recently, completely Muslim. We will show you the Royal Chapel, which is the burial chamber of the Catholic Kings, Isabel and Fernando, who chose this city as the place to build their mausoleum, the largest in the country. Inside there are the beautiful tombs made of Carrara marble and one of the finest examples of ironwork in Spain, and an important collection of Flemish painting belonging to queen Isabel. As well, we will visit the interior of the first cathedral in the Renaissance style in Spain, and the second largest in the country. Raised in the heart of the city of Granada, its purpose was to show the world the importance of the city and the changes that affected it. Amid its enormous size, the high altar of the Cathedral of Granada is, unlike any previous altar, completely circular. It is accompanied by the most interesting collection of works by the important local artist Alonso Cano.
