This scenery-packed tour begins with a drive along Highway 89a dubbed one of the most beautiful roads in America. The route continues through Flagstaff and then winds through fascinating lava flows at the base of Sunset Crater, Arizona’s youngest volcano. It’s easy to see how this unusual peak earned its name. Next visit ancient Native American ruins at Wupatki National Monument. These prehistoric dwellings provide a glimpse into the culture of the area’s earliest residents.
Colorful cliffs of the Painted Desert come into view as you enter the vast Navajo Indian Reservation. A stop will be made at historic Cameron Trading Post for lunch and shopping. This authentic trading post dates to 1916 and offers a wide variety of souvenirs along with award winning arts and crafts from numerous Native American tribes across the Southwest. The beautifully appointed dining room overlooks the Little Colorado River gorge, a tributary of the Colorado River, making its way to the Grand Canyon.
Of course, the highlight of this comprehensive tour is the visit to Grand Canyon National Park. Nothing prepares visitors for the magnificence of this Wonder of the World. Stop for photos at breathtaking overlooks on the East and South Rim drives as your guide shares plenty of fascinating information about the geology, history, flora and fauna of the Canyon and surrounding environs. Be sure to keep watch for abundant wildlife along the way. One of the stops will be Grand Canyon Village, site of historic lodges, museums, the Grand Canyon Railroad Station and Kolb Studio. Enjoy a walk through the Village, get a glimpse of the Bright Angel Trail and more panoramic views of Grand Canyon before making the journey back to your hotel. This fabulous day is sure to leave you with countless memories and photographs.
