Begin your tour with hotel pickup in Dubai and relax during the short drive northeast to Sharjah. Your first stop is the Masjid Al-Noor (Mosque of Lights), located in the heart of Al Buhaira Corniche. This iconic masterpiece is influenced by classical Ottoman architecture, reminiscent of Istanbul’s Blue Mosque. It is currently the only mosque in Sharjah to open its doors to non-Muslims.
You are welcomed with Arabic coffee and dates and greeted by a prominent Emirati cultural ambassador. During this enthralling and educational visit you will hear about Islam and the culture of the UAE. A question-and-answer session to exchange ideas completes the visit.
Continue with your guide to explore the historical heart of Sharjah. Step into Souq Al Arsah, probably the oldest market place in the UAE. Journey back in time while you walk along the air-conditioned alleyways of the market, home to numerous shops selling local and antique handicrafts, Arabic bridal and pearl chests, ethnic and handmade jewelry, perfume bottles, incense, palm-leaf baskets and shawls.
Then it's on to Sharjah Fort (Al Hisn), built in 1823 and the former residence of the Qawasim ruling family as well as government headquarters. Tour the fascinating Sharjah Museum of Islamic Civilization, which began as a traditional Middle Eastern souq, or indoor market before it was renovated and re-opened in 2008.
Finish your sightseeing with a short stop at Souq Al Jubail, a newly opened state-of-the-art marketplace. Inspired by the impressive heritage of Islamic architecture, the souq accommodates a wide range of shops for visitors to browse. Your 5-hour tour concludes with return transport to your Dubai hotel.
