Meet your friendly driver-guide outside your hotel in Chania or Kalyves, then hop inside your 8-seater all-terrain vehicle.
Rumble along dusty roads and gaze out at the stunning island landscape, passing charming villages and rolling hills studded with vineyards and olive fields. As you travel, listen to your driver-guide share fascinating facts and details about Cretan life and the island’s agriculture.
Make your first stop at a local winery in the foothills of the White Mountains. Marvel at the majestic mountain vistas, then head inside to meet one of the winemakers and begin your tour. As you stroll through the grounds, rooms and cellars, learn about Crete’s winemaking heritage and history, along with the winery’s farming and processing techniques.
Then, head into the winery’s main building for your tasting. Sip on six different varietals of red and white Cretan wine, and savor an assortment of light snacks such as rusks. At the end of your session, you’ll be able to purchase some of the wine to take home with you, if you wish.
Next, head off-road for a thrilling climb up the White Mountains. Soak up the sun and the sweeping panoramic vistas as your all-terrain vehicle bumps and jerks up the mountainside, stopping occasionally to take photos.
Pass through the traditional village of Meskla, then come to a halt outside a stone shepherd’s hut. Head inside the little round structure and listen as your driver-guide talks about the lifestyle and work of a Cretan shepherd.
Continue on to the village of Therissos or Fes where you’ll visit a local tavern for lunch. Savor a delicious 3-course meal that typically includes delicacies such as lamb served with potatoes and Greek salad, washed down with unlimited wine and raki (anise-flavored spirit).
With your appetite sated, return to your vehicle and relax on the journey back to your hotel.
Please note: The winery and villages visited may be subject to change on the day of the tour.
