Great overview and orientation of the city
This walking tour starts on the North side of the Old Exchange and Provost Dungeon. You'll then proceed to visit several attractions in Charleston's Historic District, including, but not limited to: the picturesque pastel houses on Rainbow Row; Elliott Street; Poinsett Tavern; the Washington-Heyward House; the DuBose Heyward House; Longitude Lane, one of the original “streets” of the Old Walled City; a white building from 1750 that was built by slaves for slaves, and Stoll's Alley, which The New York Times, in 1894, called a "dirty, narrow little lane in the lower part of the city." You will also pass by Philadelphia Alley, site of infamous duels, Unity Alley, and McCrady's Tavern, where George Washington once dined.
