Overview
Get a taste of South Africa’s legendary Garden Route on this private 3-day tour, led by your own personal guide. Travel along the scenic Route 62, and discover rugged desert regions such as the Klein Karoo as well as blissful coastal scenery and nature reserves. Your tour includes private round-trip transport, two nights of accommodation in your choice of either 3- or 4-star hotels in Oudtshoorn and Sedgefield, and guided visits to many attractions. Please note: A minimum of two people per booking is required.
Itinerary
Day 1: Cape Town – Oudtshoorn
Begin with a pickup from your central Cape Town hotel, and then travel in a private vehicle to the Western Cape. Gaze out at the awe-inspiring scenery along Route 62, which meanders through the desert region of Klein Karoo as well as countryside and coastal areas from Cape Town to Port Elizabeth. The journey takes between five to six hours, but several stops are factored in so you can stretch your legs, take photos and eat.
After venturing through the landscape of rugged plains and towering cliffs, stop in Oudtshoorn, the region’s principle town, so-called ‘ostrich capital,’ and your base for the night. Drop your bags at your accommodation, and then enjoy a visit to Cango Caves for a tour into the depths of the caves and wander along the subterranean pathways, admiring towering stalactite and stalagmite formations. Your evening is then spent at your leisure, perhaps discovering the nightlife and restaurants of Oudtshoorn.
Overnight: 3-star or 4-star accommodation in the Oudtshoorn area
Day 2: Oudtshoorn – Sedgefield
Pack your bags and check out of your accommodation in the morning. Then, join up with your private guide and take part in an optional 45-minute ‘meet the elephants elephant bush walk’ experience (own expense) at a nearby reserve. Learn about orphaned elephants as you join a ranger and walk alongside these gentle giants in their natural environment.
After, resume the journey along Route 62 to Wilderness National Park, roughly an hour away. Take to the water on a 1- to 2-hour canoe ride with a local guide, and paddle along a calm river that winds its way through verdant forests. Or, simply enjoy on a leisurely stroll through the forest trails.
Relax on a scenic coastal drive, enjoying views of Knysna, Plettenberg Bay and Nature’s Valley, before arriving at Bloukrans Bridge, one of the world’s highest bungee sites. Standing 709 feet (216 meters) above the Bloukrans River, the bridge is the perfect place to face your fears with an optional bungee jump (own expense). Alternatively, set your adrenaline rushing by watching the jumpers take the leap instead. If jumping of bridges is not for you, rather explore the nearby Tsitsikamma National Park with a short easy hike to the 1000 year old Big Tree. Then, travel to the coastal town of Sedgefield, check in to your overnight accommodation and spend the evening as you wish. Perhaps go for a dip in the Indian Ocean and then watch the sun slip behind the horizon, or take an evening stroll along Myoli Beach, known as one of the most beautiful spots along the Garden Route.
Overnight: 3- or 4-star accommodation in the Wilderness area, near Sedgefield
Day 3: Sedgefield – Cape Town
Depart from your accommodation in the morning and begin the journey back to Cape Town, stopping along the way to enjoy most of your activities of the tour your last day of adventure.
Arrive first at a private game reserve for a 2-hour 4x4 game drive to see some most of Africa’s famous Big Five. Look out for African elephants, Cape buffaloes, lions and rhinos. Giraffes, antelopes, zebras and wildebeests are just some of the other animals you may see as well. Just when you thought your bush experience couldn’t get any better, you’ll hop off your safari vehicle for an up close and personal encounter with nature on a tranquil bush walk. Follow your game ranger as you track wildlife through the coastal renosterveldt and Cape fynbos, keep an eye out for animal tracks, and learn about the medicinal value of the plants around you as you walk. Then, it’s back to your private vehicle for the final leg of the return journey to Cape Town. Finish your 3-day experience with a hotel drop-off in the evening.
