Overview
Start your experience with a pickup at your centrally located Budapest hotel, and enjoy the scenery as you travel into Hungary’s unspoilt countryside. After roughly 30 minutes on the road, arrive at Gödöllo Palace, the graceful Baroque mansion that was the summer residence of Queen Elisabeth, otherwise known as Sisi, and Franz Joseph I, the Hapsburg Emperor and Hungary’s king from 1848 until 1916. Set in magnificent gardens, the 18th-century palace was presented as a gift to the royal couple who came here to relax and hunt. Explore the park-like gardens and then head inside with your guide. Admire the Grand Hall resplendent in gold and white, see the ornate orangery, and visit Sisi’s private suite, still painted in her favorite violet color. Your guide will bring everything to life as you walk, with tales of the couple’s secret lovers, hidden doors and the Empress’ passions for travel and horseriding. Next, continue through picturesque countryside to a traditional Hungarian farm. When you arrive, sip a welcome glass of Hungary’s national drink of pálinka (plum brandy) and enjoy some pogácsa — the country’s beloved savory scones. Then, climb onto a traditional horse-drawn carriage to clip-clop around the farm’s pathways and rolling fields. Afterward, watch a horse show with traditionally dressed riders, featuring everything from carriage races, whip cracking and daredevil equestrian skills. When the time comes, drive back to Budapest where your experience ends with a drop-off in the city center.
