Itinerary
Day 1: Amman (D) Your representative will meet you at the airport and help you with your luggage before transferring you to your Amman hotel for dinner: please note when booking flights that dinner service finishes at 10pm.
Overnight in Amman
Day 2: Amman – Jerash – Amman (B, D) After breakfast at the hotel, enjoy a panoramic tour of old Amman, known as Philadelphia in ancient times. Then make the 1.5-hour drive to the Roman ruins at Jerash. Step back in time as your local guide escorts you through the city's streets, theater, temples, colonnades, and plaza, before returning to Amman for dinner at your hotel.
Overnight in Amman
Day 3: Amman (B, D) Enjoy a free day at your leisure.
Overnight in Amman
Day 4: Amman – Madaba – Mount Nebo – Crusader Castle – Petra (B, D) Enjoy an early breakfast at your hotel, then set out to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Petra. Your first stop is Madaba, famous for its Byzantine mosaics: your local guide will explain the story behind the 6th-century AD map of the Holy Land in St. George's Church. Next, stop at Mount Nebo, the high point from which Moses is said to have first seen the Holy Land, and capture spectacular views of the Jordan Valley, with commentary from a local guide. Finally, you'll visit one of the great crusader castles, either Karak or Shobak, arriving at your Petra hotel in time for dinner.
Overnight in Petra
Day 5: Petra (B, D) Eat breakfast at your hotel before a full-day guided visit of Petra, one of the New Seven Wonders of the World, sculpted from red rose rock more than 2,000 years ago. You'll ride a horse from the site entrance to the Siq, the dramatic 1,300-yard (1,200-meter) canyon that formed the main entryway to the city during Nabatean times, and enjoy a dramatic view of the monumental Treasury. Your local guide will escort you to rock-cut tombs, the Roman amphitheater, and more: should you wish to climb to view the gigantic Monastery, local rules dictate that this is done without a guide. You'll be back at your hotel in time for dinner.
Overnight in Petra
Day 6: Petra – Wadi Rum (B, D) After breakfast, you'll check out of your hotel and drive to the desert of Wadi Rum, one of the most spectacular settings in the Middle East, where Lawrence of Arabia was filmed. Zoom across the red desert sands surrounded by granite mountains and peaks of red and gold in a 4x4 for two hours, then enjoy free time to explore. You'll have dinner and spend the night in a Bedouin camp, sleeping in simple tents. These include beds and bedding, with shared, single-sex bathrooms a short walk away.
Overnight in Wadi Rum
Day 7: Wadi Rum – Dead Sea (B, D) After a traditional Bedouin breakfast, you'll check out of your camp and embark on the 4-hour drive to the Dead Sea. Catch some rays or enjoy the waters before enjoying dinner at your hotel.
Overnight in Dead Sea
Day 8: Dead Sea – Amman (B, D) Have a leisurely breakfast before topping up your tan or choosing a spa treatment at the Dead Sea. You'll drive 90 minutes or so back to Amman in time for dinner at your hotel.
